Tokyo int'l toy show opens with 36,000 items on display

Friday 16th July, 04:54 AM JST
TOKYO — An international toy show opened in Tokyo on Thursday with around 36,000 toys and other items made by 139 Japanese and overseas manufacturers on display. Among the items on show at the four-day International Tokyo Toy Show 2010 is a golf simulation video game produced under the supervision of teenage golfer Ryo Ishikawa.

The show at Tokyo Big Sight in Koto Ward will be open to toy makers for the first two days and to the public for the weekend. Japan’s toy market in fiscal 2009 shrank 0.9% from the previous year to around 649.4 billion yen, partly due to sluggish consumer spending, according to data provided by the Japan Toy Association, which is organizing the event.
